Tshipi é Ntle Manganese Mining, one of South Africa's leading manganese producers and a prominent player in the Northern Cape mining sector, is seeking an experienced and driven General Engineering Superintendent: Contractor Management to provide strategic and operational leadership for all contracted services and facilities on site. This is a senior engineering management role responsible for the full governance, performance and optimisation of engineering contractor operations across a large, active manganese mine. The successful candidate will ensure that all contracted services are delivered safely, compliantly, reliably and cost-effectively, while driving continuous improvement and business value across the engineering department. Job description

Contractor Management & Governance

  • Develop and implement contractor management frameworks and governance processes.
  • Conduct contractor prequalification assessments and onboarding activities.
  • Verify legal, safety, and contractual compliance of all service providers.
  • Monitor contractor KPIs, conduct performance reviews, and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Perform contractor audits and assess contractor effectiveness against operational requirements.
  • Ensure contractor performance aligns with contractual obligations and business objectives.

Contract & Service Management

  • Manage the full contract lifecycle from scope development through to contract close-out.
  • Support tender evaluation and contractor selection processes.
  • Establish and monitor Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Facilitate contract renewals, amendments, change management, and performance reviews.
  • Drive service quality improvements and contractor accountability.

Financial & Budget Management

  • Develop and manage annual operational budgets.
  • Monitor expenditure and validate contractor invoices.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and optimise contract spend.
  • Produce accurate monthly forecasts, budget reports, and performance analyses.

Compliance, Risk & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), company policies, and governance standards.
  • Lead contractor safety reviews and promote a zero-harm culture.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Maintain contractor compliance records and legal appointments.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness and contractor-related response readiness.
  • Ensure environmental and statutory obligations are met.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong working relationships with Engineering, Operations, SHE, Finance, Supply Chain, HR, contractors, OEMs, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
  • Facilitate communication and alignment between stakeholders to ensure service excellence and operational effectiveness.
  • Support contractor engagement and performance management initiatives.

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyse service performance data and develop improvement plans.
  • Drive sustainability, energy-efficiency, innovation, and cost-optimisation initiatives.
  • Generate management reports, KPI dashboards, and performance analytics to support decision-making.

Minimum requirements

Qualifications

  • Valid Trade Test (Essential)
  • N6 Mechanical Engineering Certificate or higher qualification (Essential)
  • Supervisory or Management Qualification (Advantageous)
  • Training in Contract Management, Project Management, Risk Management, or Safety Systems (Preferred)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience managing contractor operations and service agreements within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of:
