Introduction
The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and executing the operational Health and Safety business plan, promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), and supporting the achievement of the mine's safety objectives.
Job description

  • Facilitate health and safety awareness training, including the Tshipi Way, System of Safe Work and SHE initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain the mine's Risk Management Framework, including baseline risk assessments,
    significant risk identification and control verification.
  • Conduct and facilitate Issue-Based and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) risk assessments.
  • Develop, review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Codes of Practice (COPs) and Managerial Instructions.
  • Conduct scheduled workplace, machinery, and compliance inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act.
  • Record inspection findings and monitor risk profiles across operational areas.
  • Conduct SHE compliance audits across departments and contractor operations.
  • Maintain and administer the Isometrix management system.
  • Coordinate fire protection equipment inspections, servicing, and emergency preparedness programs.
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Analyse leading and lagging safety indicators and provide recommendations to supervisors andmanagement.
  • Support Health and Safety Representatives and coordinate monthly Health and Safety Committee meetings.
  • Implement and monitor the Contractor Management Program.
  • Ensure statutory appointments are completed and maintained. 
  • Promote behavior-based safety and housekeeping initiatives across the operation.
  • Monitor compliance with the mine's Wellness Program.
  • Compile statutory and management safety reports to support effective risk management and decision-making.

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Valid South African Driver’s License
  • National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (NQF Level 6)
  • Valid Blasting Certificate or National Certificate in Rock Breaking (Open Cast Mines).
  • Relevant mining-related safety short courses, such as COMSOC 2, SAMTRAC Mining, or an equivalent qualification.
