As an Environmental Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring our operations comply with EMPRs, Environmental Authorizations, and all applicable licenses. You will lead environmental programmes, provide strategic guidance, and implement initiatives to minimize the environmental impact of mining activities. Job description

What You Will Do:

  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, and regulations.
  • Prepare regulatory reports and manage permit renewals efficiently.
  • Develop and maintain annual financial assurance estimates.
  • Advise on and implement strategies to reduce environmental impacts, including waste management, recycling, renewable energy initiatives, and pollution prevention.
  • Review, update, and improve environmental policies and procedures.
  • Monitor conservation and protection programmes, preparing detailed reports.
  • Provide expert environmental advice to management aligned with policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Lead environmental monitoring schedules, site inspections, and audits.
  • Oversee environmental data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Coordinate with regulatory authorities, including DMPR, DEFF, and DWS.
  • Lead investigations of environmental incidents and develop corrective action plans.
  • Implement and continuously improve site-specific EMS in line with ISO 14001 standards.

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12/Matric
  • BSc/National Diploma in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Valid Drivers License
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience as an Environmental Officer in surface and/or underground mining or process plant operations
  • 2 year' as an Environmental Specialist or Superintendent advantageous
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 systems advantageous
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, mining operations, and rehabilitation planning
  • Proven experience in project management, team leadership, and stakeholder engagement
