You will lead environmental programmes, provide strategic guidance, and implement initiatives to minimize the environmental impact of mining activities. Job description
What You Will Do:
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, and regulations.
- Prepare regulatory reports and manage permit renewals efficiently.
- Develop and maintain annual financial assurance estimates.
- Advise on and implement strategies to reduce environmental impacts, including waste management, recycling, renewable energy initiatives, and pollution prevention.
- Review, update, and improve environmental policies and procedures.
- Monitor conservation and protection programmes, preparing detailed reports.
- Provide expert environmental advice to management aligned with policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Lead environmental monitoring schedules, site inspections, and audits.
- Oversee environmental data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Coordinate with regulatory authorities, including DMPR, DEFF, and DWS.
- Lead investigations of environmental incidents and develop corrective action plans.
- Implement and continuously improve site-specific EMS in line with ISO 14001 standards.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12/Matric
- BSc/National Diploma in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or related field
- Valid Drivers License
- A minimum of 3 years' experience as an Environmental Officer in surface and/or underground mining or process plant operations
- 2 year' as an Environmental Specialist or Superintendent advantageous
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 systems advantageous
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation, mining operations, and rehabilitation planning
- Proven experience in project management, team leadership, and stakeholder engagement
