Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead awareness training on the Tshipi Way, System of Safe Work, and related SHE initiatives.
- Implement and monitor the Risk Management Framework, ensuring that risk assessments, controls, and audits are conducted effectively.
- Facilitate Issue-Based and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) risk assessments.
- Drive the review and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Codes of Practice (COPs) based on audit findings and incident investigations.
- Conduct regular workplace and machinery inspections as per MHSA requirements.
- Manage and maintain the ISOMETRIX system and ensure effective fire and emergency preparedness.
- Analyse leading and lagging safety indicators to identify trends and provide proactive safety insights to management.
- Support and empower Health and Safety Representatives to fulfil their functions effectively.
- Ensure compliance with Contractor Management Procedures, legal appointments, and all statutory requirements.
- Lead investigations of serious incidents, non-conformances, and implement corrective measures.
- Promote Behaviour-Based Safety, continuous improvement, and visible leadership in safety performance.
Minimum requirements
- National Diploma in Safety Management
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Safety Officer in a mining environment (opencast experience advantageous).
- Valid Driver’s License
- Completion of a recognised mining safety qualification, e.g. COMSOC, SAMTRAC, or equivalent.
- Experience using an integrated risk management system (e.g. ISOMETRIX).
- Sound working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and other relevant legislation.
- Strong reporting, presentation, and communication skills (English proficiency required).
- Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
