Introduction
Tshipi Borwa Mine is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced SHE Manager to lead and manage all Health, Safety, Hygiene, and Environmental (SHE) functions at its open-cast manganese operation. The role is accountable for ensuring full legal compliance, effective risk management, and the embedding of a strong safety and environmental culture in line with South African legislation and mining best practice.
Job description
- Lead, develop, implement, and continuously improve the mine’s SHE management systems.
- Ensure full compliance with applicable HSE legislation, including but not limited to:Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA)
- National Environmental Management Act (NEMA)
- National Water Act (NWA)
- Air Quality Act
- Biodiversity Act
- MPRDA and approved EMPR
- Oversee the implementation and compliance monitoring of the Environmental Management Programme (EMPR) and Water Use Licence (WUL).
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework, including baseline and issue-based risk assessments.
- Identify priority unwanted events and ensure effective controls are implemented, monitored, and tracked.
- Compile and submit statutory, regulatory, and internal SHE reports and documentation.
- Lead SHE audits, inspections, and investigations, ensuring corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
- Drive HSE training, awareness programmes, and leadership engagement to foster a proactive safety and environmental culture.
- Liaise with regulators, external consultants, and stakeholders on SHE matters.
- Monitor legislative changes and ensure timeous implementation of new compliance requirements.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Valid South African Drivers License
- Bachelor’s degree/Advanced Diploma in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety OR aBachelor's Degree/Advanced Diploma in Mining, Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years’ SHE Management experience, preferably within the mining industry and open-cast
operations.
