Job description

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Financial Perspective

  • Contribute to cost efficiencies within the logistics function.
  • Demonstrate budget and cost awareness and proactively identify cost-saving initiatives.
  • Identify and escalate potential risks that may result in increased costs.
  • Adhere to loading SOPs to mitigate the risk of financial loss.

Internal Business Process Perspective

Loading of Trains and Trucks

  • Plan and execute the loading of manganese ore in line with standard operating procedures.
  • Develop real-time contingency plans in response to unforeseen operational changes.
  • Monitor transport contractor capacity and the movement of ore to the Port.
  • Communicate estimated and actual arrival times of trains and trucks to supporting departments.
  • Compare Transnet wagon lists with SCADA and Weigh-in-Motion system data and investigate variances.

Pre-Shift Inspections

  • Conduct pre-shift inspections of the Load Out Station and report faults, losses, or damages, including:
    • Oil leaks
    • Hydraulic pressure
    • Vertical movement of the chute
    • Weigh-flask operation
    • SCADA and Weigh-in-Motion systems

Operational Efficiency and Compliance

  • Ensure efficient loading operations and adherence to relevant SOPs by:
    • Identifying wagons without transporters and overriding systems where required.
    • Profiling correct chute positions prior to locomotive movement and commencement of loading.
    • Inspecting loaded trains for overloading, underloading, or skew loading and recommending corrective actions.
    • Completing release documentation and notifying Transnet upon completion of loading.
    • Ensuring wagons are clean and fit for use in accordance with Load Out Station processes.
  • Continuously analyse logistics processes and identify opportunities for improvement.

Inventory Control

  • Participate in the establishment, maintenance, housekeeping, and optimisation of inventory control systems to support effective decision-making.

Minimum requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Valid Shunter’s Qualification (advantageous)
  • Valid South African Driver’s Licence
  • Understanding of isolation and earthing switches on OHTE systems.
  • Experience in loading trains at slow speed via a Load Out Station (essential).
