Introduction
To oversee and coordinate daily mining operations and supervise all mining fleet and equipment to ensure production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA). The incumbent will be responsible for the safe and correct operation of all equipment and personnel under their control during each shift.
Job description

Operational Oversight

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of mining personnel during shifts.
  • Ensure optimal use of equipment and resources in line with the daily mining production plan.
  • Oversee the use of mining fleet including excavators, dump trucks, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Monitor production rates, identify variances, and take corrective action to meet targets.
  • Liaise with MRM Planning, Geology, and Processing teams to ensure safe attainment of production goals.
  • Conduct regular inspections to confirm plant and equipment operate within set parameters.

Safety and Compliance

  • Conduct daily safety declarations and enforce safety protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with MHSA, environmental standards, and company policies.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with Regulation 2.9.2 Legal Appointment.
  • Implement corrective actions from safety or compliance inspections.

Team Leadership

  • Allocate and monitor tasks, ensuring efficient team performance.
  • Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and mentoring to operators.
  • Conduct pre-shift toolbox talks and fatigue management checks.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and safety awareness.

Reporting and Communication

  • Maintain accurate records of production, equipment utilisation, and safety observations.
  • Report shifts performance and challenges to management.
  • Submit Plant Task Observations (PTOs) as per company requirements.
  • Liaise regularly with engineers, geologists, and the Mining Superintendent.

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Valid South African Driver’s License
  • Valid Blasting Certificate
  • Mining Overseer Certificate of Competency (Advantageous)
  • 5 years’ mining production experience, with at least 2 years in supervisory capacity.
  • Sound knowledge of MHSA, production planning, and safety management systems.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work shifts and perform under pressure in a production environment.
